DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. – Kennesaw State overcame a four-shot deficit entering the final round and rallied over the final 18 holes to capture the Rees Jones Invitational that concluded Tuesday at the par-72, 7,380-yard Haig Point Golf Club in Daufuskie Island, S.C. It marked the Owls' third win in the last four years at the event.
Led by a 1-under par 71 from redshirt junior
Kelby Burton (Evans, Ga. / Lakeside HS), Kennesaw State turned in the low round of the day, carding a 10-over par 298 to register a two-shot victory over South Florida and host South Carolina. The Owls finished the 54-hole event with a 21-over par 885.
South Florida, which led the tournament after the first and second rounds, posted a 16-over par 304 on the final day to tie South Carolina for second place at 23-over par 887.
"I am so proud of this team for what it accomplished today and this week," head coach
Jay Moseley said. "Conditions were extremely tough today and our guys did a great job of grinding out their rounds. We expected today to be exactly how it turned out and it feels great to come through with a win."
Kennesaw State had four players finish in the top 20 and was led by junior
Austin Vick (Evans, Ga. / Greenbrier HS) who tied for fourth place with a 2-over par total of 218 while playing as an individual. Junior
Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) tied for sixth at 3-over par 219, while Burton and freshman
Chris Guglielmo (Cumming, Ga. / South Forsyth HS) tied for 19th at 9-over par 225.

Teremoana Beaucousin (Papara, Tahiti / Lycée de Papara) tied for 33rd with a 13-over par 229.
"I am very pleased with our progress at this point, but we know there is always room to improve and get better," Moseley said. "This, undoubtedly, is the biggest win in our program's history."
South Florida's Chase Koepka claimed individual medalist honors, finishing play at 4-under par 212 to record a four-shot victory over UNC Wilmington's Payne McLeod (216).
