Name the Owl
KENNESAW, Ga. – In anticipation of the debut of the first live mascot in school history, the Kennesaw State Department of Athletics has announced a contest to name the owl that will be unveiled at the second annual "Flight Night" scheduled for October 19 at the KSU Convocation Center. The event begins at 7:15 p.m.
The naming contest opens on Wednesday, Sept. 25 and will run through Wednesday, Oct. 9. Students, faculty, staff, fans and the university community will be asked to log onto:
www.ksuowls.com/NametheOwl and submit a first, middle and last name along with an explanation for choosing those names.
The list of names will be narrowed down by a committee of students, faculty, staff, community members, KSU Board of Trustees and alumni. The finalists will then be announced October 9, and fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites.
The owl is currently living at Winding Woods Ranch in Commerce, Ga., where he is going through a rigorous training regimen under noted trainer Daniel Walthers.
The great horned Owl is the official owl of Kennesaw State, and the live owl that will be introduced at Kennesaw State is in the family of the great horned owl.
After several years of discussing the concept of a live Owl to serve as the official mascot of Kennesaw State, the decision to move forward was finally made last spring. The live owl adopted by KSU was born April 8, 2013 in New York and will officially receive his name at "Flight Night." The owl will grow to six pounds with a wing span around five feet and can live up to 60 years.
Each Wednesday until the week of "Flight Night", new pictures and video of the owl will be posted on
www.KSUOwls.com.
