TEMPE, Ariz. – Led by sophomore
Austin Vick (Evans, Ga. / Greenbrier HS), Kennesaw State posted its best round the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Southwest Regional, recording a 4-under par 276 on Saturday to conclude the 54-hole event with 14-over par 854 to tie for 10th place at the par-70, 7,036-yard ASU Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz.
UCLA captured the team title with a commanding victory as the Bruins posted a 30-under par total of 810 to finish 17 strokes ahead of Central Florida and Georgia, who tied for second at 13-under par 827. Texas A&M (829) and Arizona State (832) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to earn the final two spots into NCAA Championships that will be held May 28-June 2 at The Capital City Club, Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga.
Vick posted a final-round 5-under par 65 to conclude play at 2-over par 212 and tie teammate
Jonathan Klotz (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) for 30th place. Klotz turned in a closing-round 1-over par 71.
Sophomore
Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) recorded a 1-under par 69 to complete play tied for 38th with a 4-over par 214. Seniors
Peder Lunde Hermansson (Gothenburg, Sweden / Katrine lindsgymnasiet) and
Ben Greene (Duluth, Ga. / Peachtree Ridge HS) tied for 50th and 66th, respectively.
Central Florida’s Greg Eason claimed individual medalist honors with a 12-under par 198 to finish four shots ahead of UCLA’s Jonathan Garrick and Ricardo Gouveia of UCF. Both players finished at 8-under par 202.
Austin Peay State’s Dustin Korte placed eighth with a 6-under 204 and earned the lone individual berth to the NCAA Championships.
Kennesaw State is celebrating 30 years of intercollegiate athletics during the 2012-13 academic year.
