NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State baseball team couldn’t keep up its winning ways during an Atlantic Sun Conference series opener at Lipscomb, falling to the Bison 6-1 on Thursday night, the first loss in over a week for the Owls.
Kennesaw State falls back to 26-26 on the year and 13-12 in the A-Sun while Lipscomb moves to 22-32 on the year and 11-14 in the conference, clinching a spot in the postseason tournament in the process.
The Bison put in most of their work early on, bringing in four runs in the first two innings, two from a two-run homer from Austin Sistrunk. LU then added one more run in both the fourth and fifth innings to go up 6-0.
KSU came out in the ninth and picked up its lone run of the contest thanks to a RBI single from
Jacob Bruce (Woodstock, Ga./Woodstock HS), his 25
th of the year, bringing in
Bo Way (Brunswick, Ga./Glynn Academy) for the 6-1 score.
The Owls put up seven hits during the game, three alone from
Andy Almonte (Moca, Puerto Rico/Gordon College) and two from
Alex Liquori (Brooks, Ga./Whitewater HS). Way had the only hit for extra bases for the Owls with his double to lead off the ninth.
Travis Dean (Boston, Mass./Newton South HS) took the loss on the hill, but it was
Alan Busenitz (Athens, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College) and
Kevin McCoy (Gainesville, Fla./Andrew College) who came in to go the final 4.1 innings, holding the Bison to just one hit and striking out four.
Game two of the three-game series between the Owls and the Bison will take place tomorrow, May 17 at Ken Duggan field. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. ET with
Kevin Kyle (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College) on the hill for KSU.
