THE SERIES:
Taking a break from Atlantic Sun Conference action this Tuesday, April 9, the Kennesaw State baseball team heads into Atlanta for a 5 p.m. ET contest against cross-town rival Georgia State at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The Owls arrive at 18-15 on the season and 11-10 in non-conference action while the Panthers of Georgia State come in at 20-13 in 2013 and are 17-5 on their home turf.
Tuesday’s matchup will be the first this season between the two schools.

THE OPPONENT
Georgia State comes into the game winners in its last four games after taking care of Fordham in a four-game weekend series.
The Panthers have hit the ball well thus far, batting .342 as a team with a slugging percentage of .472 after accumulating 19 homers, eight triples and 82 doubles collectively on the season.
Junior Chad Prain is one of the top hitters in the country up to this point in the season, hitting .469 through 32 games.
THE SERIES
KSU leads in the all-time record books, 10-6, having won the last four meetings over the Panthers as well.
The Owls swept a weekend series between the rivals last season by a combined score of 23-15.
LAST OUTING
In the Sunday finale against Florida Gulf Coast University, the Kennesaw State baseball team couldn’t muster up the offensive power to take down the Eagles, falling 4-1 against the Atlantic Sun Conference foe.
The Owls fall to 18-15 on the year and 7-5 in the A-Sun with the loss as the Eagles take the series, 2-1, moving to 20-8 on the season and 6-3 in the league.
Sophomore
Jacob Bruce (Woodstock, Ga./Woodstock HS) had two of the six Kennesaw State hits on the afternoon as the Owls stranded 12 runners on the bases
Bruce was the only Owl with multiple hits as Simmons,
Peyton Hart (Sandy Cross, Ga./Franklin County HS),
Bo Way (Brunswick, Ga./Glynn Academy) and
Andy Almonte (Moca, Puerto Rico/Godron College) each earning one, Almonte extending his hit-streak to 12 games.
NEXT UP
The Owls return to Atlantic Sun Conference play this weekend, hosting Jacksonville University in a three-game series starting on Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m. ET.
NEWS AND NOTES
Leading the Way
Bo Way (Brunswick, Ga./Glynn Academy) continues to lead the offense for KSU, hitting .328 on the year with 42 hits, eight for extra bases, and a .404 on base percentage.
Almonte’s Week
Andy Almonte put on a solid showing this past week, hitting .500 over the four-game span with one homerun. Almonte is in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak and is currently batting .287 on the season.
McGowan Drawing Walks
Sophomore
Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill HS) has found his way on base via walks from opposing pitchers plenty this season, drawing a team-high 23 walks in 103 at bats. McGowan now ranks in the top five in the league in that category.
Moving the Runners
While leading the team with 25 RBI this season, freshman
Kal Simmons has been moving around runners any way he can, leading the squad with eight sacrifice bunts as well this season.
Owls on the Mound
Kennesaw State pitching continues to lead the A-Sun in terms of ERA, holding a staff average of 2.82. The Owls are giving up less than one hit per inning to the opposition, putting KSU in the top 10 nationally in the statistic.
