MACON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team continued its recent success with a 6-1 win over Mercer for its third-straight conference victory on Saturday, April 6 at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
 
The Owls improve to 8-9 on the season and 3-3 in the A-Sun, while Mercer drops to 5-12 and 1-5 in league play.
 
KSU started off the match by earning its fourth doubles point in the last five matches as all three tandems posted wins, highlighted by the fifth-straight win at No. 1 doubles from sophomore Jana Hueckinghaus and junior Alexandra Apostu, who notched an 8-2 win over Lucie Payrat and Isabel Dennis.
 
In singles action, the Owls dominated the Bears with all five of their singles wins coming in straight sets. Apostu registered the first singles victory of the day as she blanked Liza Klyachkin, 6-0, 6-0 on court three, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win from Hueckinghaus over Dennis at No. 2 singles. Freshman Isabela Castro then delivered a 6-1, 6-1 win over Amanda Bertani on court six to clinch the match for KSU.
 
Sophomore Tamara Plocher posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Natalie Franklin on court five and sophomore Virginie Stein tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win against Payrat at No. 1 singles to round out the Owls.
 
Kennesaw State continues its road trip with a neutral site match against No. 50 Arkansas at 9 a.m. (ET) on Sunday, April 7 at Bishop Park in Athens, Ga.
