JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State baseball team lost both ends of an Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader to East Tennessee State on Saturday, falling 9-7 and 8-2, at Thomas Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Buccaneers (24-17, 13-8) touched up Owls’ starter for six runs in four innings, jumping out to a 6-2 lead to secure the game one victory. East Tennessee State secured the series win with a four-run sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead.
Sophomore outfielders
Jacob Bruce (Woodstock, Ga. / Woodstock HS) and
Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga. / Collins Hill HS) led the Owls (22-24, 10-11) offensively, each going 4-for-8 with two RBI on the day.
In game one, Kennesaw State rallied in the ninth, scoring one run and had the tying and potential go-ahead runs on base, but East Tennessee State reliever Clinton Freeman worked out of the jam to preserve the win for the Buccaneers.
In the nightcap, the Owls
Kevin Kyle (Atlanta, Ga. / Holy Innocents HS / Georgia Perimeter) and East Tennessee State’s Logan Rice were locked in a pitcher’s duel three innings before the Buccaneers broke through for single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.
After Kennesaw State cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fifth inning on an infield single by Bruce, the Buccaneers answered with a four-run bottom half of the inning. East Tennessee State took advantage three hits and four walks to take a 6-2 lead.
Kennesaw State returns to action on Wednesday (May 1) when it hosts Western Carolina in a non-conference game at Stillwell Stadium beginning at 5 p.m. (ET).
