BRASELTON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team opened Tuesday’s final round of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships one shot off the lead and remained in contention through the first nine holes. However, struggles on the backside of the par-72, 7,003-yard The Legends at Chateau Elan ended the Owls’ hopes for a second conference tournament title.
Kennesaw State shot a closing round 18-over par 306 to conclude the 54-hole championship with a 33-over par 897 and a third-place finish. Seventeenth-ranked North Florida won its second straight conference championship after finishing play with a 17-over par total of 881, 14 shots better than East Tennessee State (881).
Led by M.J. Maguire’s 4-under par 68, the Ospreys turned in the low round of the day, posting a 3-over par 291 to separate themselves from the rest of the field. Maguire’s third round performance helped him claim individual medalist honors with a 1-under total of 215, two shots better than East Tennessee State’s Rhys Pugh who completed the tournament at 1-over 217.

Austin Vick# (Evans, Ga. / Greenbrier HS), who led the tournament after the first two days, and through nine holes on Tuesday with an even-par score, finished eighth with an 8-over par 224 total.
Vick opened the backside with a nine on the par-5 10th hole and went on to shoot a 9-over par 45 on his final nine holes to record an 81.

Jonathan Klotz (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) shot a third-round 2-over par 74 to lead the Owls and finish tied for 25th with a 17-over total of 233 score.
Sophomore
Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) and senior
Peder Lunde Hermansson (Gothenburg, Sweden / Katrine lundsgymnasiet) both shot 5-over par 77s to tie for 13th with 12-over par totals of 228.
Senior
Ben Greene (Duluth, Ga. / Peachtree Ridge HS) tied for 16th with a 13-over par 229 after posting a final-round 6-over par 78.
Kennesaw State will now wait for the NCAA Championships field to be announced on May 6 at 9 p.m. (ET). The tournament begins with six regionals scheduled for May 16-18, with selected sites located in Baton Rouge, La. (LSU), Tallahassee, Fla. (Florida State), Columbus, Ohio (Ohio State), Fayetteville, Ark. (Arkansas), Pullman, Wash. (Washington State) and Tempe, Ariz. (Arizona State).
The NCAA Championships are slated for May 28 – June 2 at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga. with Georgia Tech serving as host.
