KENNESAW, Ga. – Junior Angie Dascoli (West Melbourne, Fla./State College of Florida) belted a pair of home runs to lift the Kennesaw State softball team over Jacksonville, 4-3, at Bailey Park on Sunday, April 21, earning the Owls the series sweep over the Dolphins.

KSU improves to 30-17 overall and 14-10 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while JU falls to 30-18 and 11-11 in league play. The Owls sit in fifth place in the conference standings following this weekend’s action.

After a one-out walk from sophomore Kaylee Williams (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS) in the bottom of the second inning, Dacoli smacked her first home of the day to left field for an early 2-0 KSU lead.

KSU stretched its lead to 3-0 in the third on an RBI single through the right side from senior Sharon Swanson (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS), plating sophomore Natalie Rhodes (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS), who reached on a throwing error from JU third baseman Ashley Simon to open the inning.

Dascoli struck again in the fourth frame with a lead off long ball to left field, her second of the game and fifth of the season, to give the Owls their biggest lead of the game at 4-0.

Jacksonville rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth as Morgan Kibler was walked with the bases loaded. Senior Abbey Mixon (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) was then inserted into the game for junior starter Amanda Henderson (Covington, Ga./Eastside HS), allowing an RBI single to right center from pinch hitter Emily Sanchez before working out of the inning and preserving the KSU lead.

The Dolphins came within a run in the top of the seventh when Simon hit a two-out double to center field, but Mixon and the Owl defense did not let the JU rally continue, securing the final out of the game on the next Dolphin batter.

Kennesaw State totaled three hits in the game to Jacksonville’s eight, while each team committed an error. Dascoli led the KSU offense with a 2-for-3 performance plus three RBI and two runs, with Swanson contributing a hit and an RBI in the win.

Henderson (17-4) allowed six hits and only two earned runs, while striking out four in 5.1 innings of work to earn the win. Mixon registered her first save of the season as she threw for 1.2 innings, giving up only two hits and one earned run in the outing.

Cecile Gomez (8-2) dropped her second-straight game against the Owls, after faltering in Saturday’s second game. Karson Tuck posted a pair of hits for the Dolpins.

The Owls will take a break from conference action with a trio of midweek games, as KSU travels to Georgia Tech on Wednesday, April 24 for a single game starting at 6 p.m. (ET), followed by Kennesaw State’s final home doubleheader of the season on Thursday, April 25 against UAB. First-pitch against the Blazers is set for 4 p.m.
