JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State baseball team took the series loss at the University of North Florida on Sunday, April 21, falling by a score of 14-3 in the rubber match of the three-game Atlantic Sun Conference outing.
The Owls, who fall to 21-21 on the year and 9-9 in the A-Sun, got into trouble early on, giving up 13 runs in the first two innings to the Ospreys, who improve upon their A-Sun leading record, now 29-12 on the season and 11-4 in the league standings.
KSU did have a productive top of the fourth inning, however, starting off with a single from senior
Peyton Hart (Sandy Cross, Ga./Franklin County HS) followed by a homerun to right field from
Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill HS), his second of the year, tying the first baseman for the team lead in homers.
Catcher
Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) then smacked his first of two doubles on the afternoon and was driven in by Cody Belcher (Augusta, Ga./Lakeside HS) to cut the deficit down to just 10 runs before the home team added one more in the bottom half, taking the 14-3 win.
The Owls did hold the Ospreys scoreless in the final four innings, picking up on solid relief outings from
Colton Cross (Ringgold, Ga./Ringgold HS),
Jacob Moore (Acworth, Ga./Woodland HS),
Will Solomon (Columbus, Ga./Columbus HS) and
James Connell (Roswell, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College).
KSU also came up with eight hits, two from Pentecost, with McGowan earning a pair of RBI off of his two-run shot.
The Owls will continue the road stretch this Tuesday, April 23, as the team heads to Western Carolina for a 5 p.m. ET contest.
