KENNESAW, Ga. – After a heroic comeback to take the lead in the seventh, the Kennesaw State baseball team couldn’t hold on, falling to Georgia State 3-2 in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Stillwell Stadium in front of 1,007 fans.
KSU (19-19) fell behind in the sixth inning to GSU (25-14) after the Panthers broke the scoreless bout with an RBI single from Chris Triplett to give the visitors a one-run edge.
In the seventh, it was
Alex Liquori (Brooks, Ga./Whitewater HS) who made it back-to-back games with a homer as he sent a two-run blast to right field to give the Owls a 2-1 lead, bringing home
Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill HS) and taking over the team lead in homeruns in the process.
With two out in the top of the ninth, Georgia State stayed alive, putting together a pair of hits followed by a costly error from the Owls that sent in the tying run, bringing the game into the 10
th at 2-2 after the Owls failed to score a run in the bottom half of the ninth.
In extras, it was a hit batter to start off the inning, the eight that KSU threw on the night, followed by a sacrifice bunt and the game winning single from Greg Bowder that gave the Panthers the go-ahead run and the 3-2 win, despite stranding 14 runners on the bases.
The Owls put up eight hits as a team as McGowan and
Dylan Ivey (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) each picked up two with Liquori earning a pair of RBI.
Freshman
Jordan Hillyer (Dacula, Ga./Hebron Christian HS) got the start on the mound, throwing five innings giving up just two hits and striking out five.
KSU will have a quick turnaround, playing again tomorrow, Wednesday, April 17, as the team heads down the road to Georgia Southern for a 6 p.m. ET contest.
