Baseball Preps for Two In-State Rivals

THE GAMES:
The Kennesaw State baseball team steps out of Atlantic Sun Conference play this week, setting its sights on a pair of in-state opponents this Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17, against Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
 
The Owls (19-18) will host the Panthers on Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET before making the trip down to Statesboro, Ga. for the 6 p.m. ET game against the Eagles.
 
Tuesday’s contest against GSU will feature a plethora of events for students and fans including a student tailgate, crawfish boil, Greek Night and the Diamond Dig sponsored by Shane Co.

LAST OUTING
After falling behind early on 10-0 to Jacksonville on Sunday, the Kennesaw State baseball team came all the way back, but ultimately fell, 12-10, to wrap up the three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Stillwell Stadium.

Designated hitter Ryan Raper (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove HS) had a 2-for-4 day at the plate with five RBI and a homer as the Owls fall to 19-18 on the year and 8-7 in the A-Sun.
 
As a team, the Owls were good for 13 hits with Alex Liquori (Brooks, Ga./Whitewater HS), Raper, Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS), Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill HS) and Dylan Ivey (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) each belting two.
 
NEXT UP
The Owls will return to A-Sun action this weekend, heading to Jacksonville, Fla. for a three-game series against North Florida starting on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.

NEWS AND NOTES
Janas on the Mound
Stephen Janas (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) still holds the A-Sun’s lead in terms of ERA with a 0.85 mark. The ERA is also the second best in the nation so far this year as Janas has only given up four earned runs in 42 innings pitched.
 
Bruce Takes the Lead
Jacob Bruce has taken over the team lead in batting average with a .318 mark, overcoming Bo Way who had been leading up to this point in the season. Way is right behind Bruce, however, at .315 with Dylan Ivey and Ryan Raper hitting .310.
 
Bruce in the A-Sun
Jacob Bruce is now hitting .410 in Atlantic Sun Conference games alone this year, putting him at third in the league standings in that category.
 
Small Ball
The Owls have played small ball well so far this season, laying down 35 sacrifice bunts, among the most in the A-Sun, with 41 stolen bases.
