DELAND, Fla. – The Kennesaw State softball team dropped its season series finale with Stetson, 4-2, at Patricia Wilson Field on Sunday, April 14.

The Owls fall to 27-16 and 11-10 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, while the Hatters improves to 24-17 and 7-10 in the league.

Stetson scored all four of its runs over the first two innings as the Hatters took advantage of two sacrifice flies and an illegal pitch to plate three runs in the first. Stetson then added a run in the second on an RBI single to second base from Jessica Griffin.

Senior Sharon Swanson (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) put the Owls on the board in the third with a home run to left field, her team-leading ninth of the season.

An inning later junior Angie Dascoli (West Melbourne, Fla./State College of Florida) cut the lead to two with a knock to center field, her third homer of the season.

Sophomore Monica Vickery (Rossville, Ga./Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe HS) came in relief of senior starter Abbey Mixon (Canton, Ga./Cherokee HS) in the second inning and did not allow a run, while only giving up a single hit in 4.1 innings of work, but KSU could not rally from the two-run deficit.

The Owls totaled four hits to Stetson’s seven, with the Hatters committing one error in the contest. Dascoli went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run for the Owls.

Mixon (10-9) took the loss after giving up six hits and four earned runs in 1.2 innings.

Meredith Owen (15-7) posted six strikeouts in a complete game effort to earn the win for the Hatters, who got two hits each from Griffin, Brittany Hawn and Kayla Drury.

Kennesaw State next takes a break from conference action as the Owls travel to Montgomery, Ala., for a single game midweek matchup against Alabama State on Wednesday, April 17 at 5 p.m. (ET).
