KENNESAW, Ga. – After falling behind early on 10-0 to Jacksonville on Sunday, the Kennesaw State baseball team came all the way back, but ultimately fell, 12-10, to wrap up the three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series at Stillwell Stadium.

Designated hitter Ryan Raper (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove HS) had a 2-for-4 day at the plate with five RBI and a homer as the Owls fall to 19-18 on the year and 8-7 in the A-Sun.

The Dolphins (13-23, 6-6 A-Sun) picked up 10 runs in the first two innings off of KSU starter Kevin Kyle (Atlanta, Ga./Georgia Perimeter HS) but the Owls fought back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth after Raper’s three-run shot over the center field wall.

Alex Liquori (Brooks, Ga./Whitewater HS) then belted his first homerun of the season one inning later to cut the lead down to five with the two teams exchanging runs in the sixth and seventh, sending the game into the ninth 12-7 Jacksonville.

In the bottom of the last, KSU made things interesting as catcher Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) scored Liquori, followed by a bases-clearing double to left-center field from Raper to make it 12-10. The Owls had two on in scoring position with two outs but couldn’t pick up the tying run, falling to the Dolphins by a pair and losing the series, 2-1.

As a team, the Owls were good for 13 hits with Liquori, Raper, Pentecost, Chris McGowan (Lawrenceville, Ga./Collins Hill HS) and Dylan Ivey (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) each belting two.

After starting pitcher Kyle, Justin McCalvin (Leesburg, Ga./Lee County HS), Kevin McCoy (Gainsville, Ga./Andrew College), Will Solomon (Columbus, Ga./Columbus HS) and Alan Busenitz (Athens, Ga./Georgia Perimeter College) went the final eight innings allowing just two runs and five hits to JU while striking out seven.

The Owls will be back in action this Tuesday, April 16, at 5 p.m. ET as KSU welcomes in cross-town rival Georgia State.
