KENNESAW, Ga. - Sophomore
Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS), who claimed individual medalist honors at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate on Sunday, has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for Apr. 10, the league office announced on Wednesday. It marks the third time this season he has been honored.
Beck recorded rounds of 67-70-68 for an 8-under par 205 score to post a one shot victory over Charlotte’s Franco Castro at the par-71, 7,099-yard The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C. The tournament victory marked the second of the season for Beck who captured the individual title at the Pinetree Intercollegiate last October.
The Columbus, Ga. native’s performance helped the Owls tie for third place and register their fourth straight Top 10 showing and second consecutive Top 5 finish.
Beck currently leads Kennesaw State with a 72.2 scoring average in 29 rounds and has posted five Top 20 finishes and placed in the Top 10 on four occasions. He previously was named A-Sun Conference Golfer of the Week on Sept. 26 and Nov. 24.
Kennesaw State returns to action on April 21 when it opens play at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships at the Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton, Ga.
Kennesaw State is celebrating 30 years of intercollegiate athletics during the 2012-13 academic year.
