MATCH NOTES
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s team is set to host East Carolina and Austin Peay in a pair of dual matches at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga. The Owls first plays ECU on Sunday, March 10 at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. match against APSU on Monday, March 11.
KSU (2-6, 0-0 Atlantic Sun) is coming off of a 7-0 setback against Campbell on Wednesday, March 6 in a neutral site match at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel.
Freshman
Tobi Menhofer and sophomore Alexander Pena each won their first set in singles play, but would drop the decision in three sets. Menhofer fell 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to No. 75 Fernando Guillen at No. 1 singles, while Pena suffered a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) defeat to Josep Baro on court five.
East Carolina (9-1, 0-0 Conference USA) has tallied five wins in a row after dropping its first match of the season against George Washington, 4-3, on Feb. 1, and last posted a 4-0 result over UNC Asheville on Tuesday. The Pirates are led individually by Joran Vliegen, who has registered a 10-0 record on court one in singles action. In doubles play, ECU is a combined 20-3 during the dual match season, including a 7-0 mark from Vliegen and teammate Colin Roller at No. 1 doubles.
After opening the season with a pair of losses, Austin Peay (5-2, 0-0 Ohio Valley) has rebounded to earn five-straight wins, including a 4-3 victory over A-Sun league member Lipscomb on Tuesday. Aleksas Tverijonas owns a team-leading seven singles wins for the Govs, including a 6-0 record at No. 4 singles. Jasmin Ademovic and Sean Bailey have teamed to tally a 5-1 mark in doubles action on court one.
Kennesaw State next opens A-Sun Conference action as the Owls head to Jacksonville, Fla., for a match against North Florida on Thursday, March 14 at 2 p.m. (ET).
