MATCH NOTES
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team will head to Orangeburg, S.C., for a match against South Carolina State on Saturday, March 9 at the Bulldog Tennis Courts. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET).
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Owls (3-6) are coming off of a heartbreaking 4-3 loss against Troy on Sunday, March 3 at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga. Playing singles first, the Owls and Trojans each secured three singles victories to head into doubles action in a 3-3 tie. Troy then tallied wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches to earn the victory over the Owls.
After being down 2-0 in singles play, sophomore
Jana Hueckinghaus was the first of three-straight KSU victories as she dispatched Anja Cosovic 6-4, 7-6 on court three. Sophomore
Virginie Stein then registered a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Karoline Grymel at No. 1 singles, before senior
Therese Lagerkvist defeated Rosaura Ramirez-Vega, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, on court five.
South Carolina State (6-2) is on a four-match winning streak, as the Bulldogs have registered wins over South Alabama, NC Central, Savannah State and North Carolina A&T State in the past two weeks. SCSU has played one other Atlantic Sun Conference member, falling 7-0 to North Florida earlier in the season. Laura Bosneag leads the Bulldogs with a 4-1 record in singles action, with three wins coming on court six. In doubles play, Katarina Barborikova and Kateryna Nakonechna own a 3-0 mark at No. 2 doubles for SCSU.
Kennesaw State next opens A-Sun play as the Owls travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for a match on Thursday, March 14 against North Florida. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. (ET).
