Softball Set for Midweek Game at Furman Wednesday

KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State softball team is set to travel to Greenville, S.C., for a midweek doubleheader against Furman on Wednesday, March 6. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. (ET), with game two slated to start 20 minutes following the conclusion of game one.

KSU (14-3) is coming off of a successful weekend at the Georgia Southern Eagle Classic on March 1-3 in Statesboro, Ga., finishing the tournament with a 4-1 mark. The Owls posted a pair of wins over Alabama State as well as victories over Florida International and Georgia Southern.
 
Freshman Alexis Collis (Blue Ridge, Ga./Fanin County HS) was an offensive spark plug for KSU in Statesboro as she posted a .556 batting average with five hits, including two doubles, four RBI, two runs and seven total bases touched. She notched a .778 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.
 
Junior Amanda Henderson (Covington, Ga./Eastside HS) continued her great start to the 2013 season with a pair of complete game wins over the weekend. Against FIU, Henderson totaled six strikeouts and only two earned runs in the outing. Henderson next had one her best performances of the season in the win over GSU as she notched a season-high 13 strikeouts while only allowing three hits and two earned runs. For the tournament, she registered 19 strikeouts in 14 innings.
 
Henderson and the entire Owl pitching staff have helped Kennesaw State rank fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference in pitching with an earned run average of 1.65. Henderson rates third in the conference with an ERA of 1.04. Her 80 strikeouts rank first in the league, with her eight wins also ranking in a tie for first in the A-Sun.
 
Furman (8-6) will open its 2013 home schedule against the Owls on Wednesday after the Paladins started the season with 14 games either on the road or at neutral sites. Furman went 2-2 at the Combat Invitational last weekend in Rock Hill, S.C. The Paladins tallied wins over Rhode Island and Hartford.
 
Senior Stephanie Field leads the team in batting average with .348 average with four doubles, while junior Lauren Collier has led the Furman pitching staff with a 4-2 record and 2.15 ERA.  Collier is coming off of a one-hit shutout win over Hartford on Sunday.
 
The Owls will have a week off before opening A-Sun play with a doubleheader against Mercer on Wednesday, March 13 at Bailey Park. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (ET).
