Men’s Tennis Heads to Charleston for Midweek Match against Campbell

MATCH NOTES

KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State men’s team travels to Charleston, S.C., for a neutral site midweek match against Campbell on Wednesday, March 6 at the Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel. The match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. (ET) start.
 
The Owls (2-5, 0-0 Atlantic Sun) last dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 67 Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 3. Sophomore Alexander Pena earned his third singles victory of the season with a 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 1-0 (10-6) win over Anish Sharma at No. 5 singles for the Owls’ lone point of the match.
 
Pena, senior Gokalp Ozdemir and freshmen Tobi Menhofer and Maksim Yorsh own a team-leading three wins in singles. Menhofer and sophomore Louis Theodor lead Kennesaw State in doubles action with a 5-2 record, all of which came at No. 1 doubles.
 
Campbell (5-4, 1-0 Big South) is coming off of a 4-0 win over Bethune-Cookman on Monday, March 4, after knocking-off defending Big South conference champion Radford, 4-3, in the Camels’ league opener on Monday, Feb. 25.
 
Individually, the Camels are led by Fernando Guillen with a 13-7 record in singles; including a 5-3 mark on court one. Guillen has teamed with David Clavera to post an 11-6 tally in doubles action.
 
Campbell leads the all-time series with the Owls, 3-0, with the last meeting between the two schools coming in 2011 as the Camels tallied a 7-0 win against KSU on March 25 in Marietta.
 
Kennesaw State next hosts East Carolina on Sunday, March 10 at noon, at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga.
