Owls Come in Eighth at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – Austin Vick shot the best round of his collegiate career on Tuesday’s final round of the USF Invitational, posting a four-under-par 68 to pace the team to an eighth place finish.

The Owls totaled a 54-hole score of 300-295-290=885, +21 on the par 72, 7060 yard layout Lake Jovita Country Club.

Ben Greene led the Black and Gold over the three days, finishing tied for sixth after carding a two-under-par, 214. For Greene, this is his third top 10 finish on the season.

Peder Lunde Hermansson capped of the tournament with a 74 on Tuesday to finish tied for 27th at six-over-par 222. Vick who advanced into a tie for 32nd after his final 18 push followed Hermansson with an eight-over-par, 224 total.

Jimmy Beck finished tied for 43rd at 10-over-par 226, while Carlos Segura Oliva rounded out the scoring at 18-over-par, 234 to finish tied for 69th.

“It wasn’t the result we wanted, but we learned a lot and have plenty of good things to build on after this week,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “Ben (Greene) was really our spark plug for the tournament. He played great all three rounds. Austin’s (Vick) round today was very impressive. It will give him confidence as we head to Auburn next week.”

Team honors went to North Carolina State as the Wolfpack shot a four-under-par 860 to beat South Carolina by one stroke. Florida State (863, -1) finished third despite a late push, while South Florida (873, +9) and Virginia (881, +17) rounded out the top five.

Albin Choi of N.C. State claimed the individual title, leading all three rounds of the Invitational and finishing at eight-under-par 208.

The KSU men’s golf team will return to action on Monday Mar. 11 when the team travels to Auburn, Ala. to compete in the Tiger Invitational. The event is hosted by Auburn at the Grand Lakes National Course.
