Greene, a senior from Duluth, Ga. sits alone in seventh place, six shots off the pace of leader Albin Choi of North Carolina State who posted another 68 to extend his first round lead.
Senior
Peder Lunde Hermansson added an even par 72 on Monday at the Lake Jovita Country Club, to position the Owls just eight stokes outside of the top five.
Sophomore
Jimmy Beck carded another three-over-par 75 to tie for 37th, while
Carlos Segura Oliva and
Austin Vick dropped into a tie for 68th.
“We had some spurts where we played great golf, and we had some spurts where we played poorly,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “Ben (Greene) played well for us and really salvaged today’s round. The young guys made mistakes, but if we have a solid round tomorrow we can get back in to contention.”
N.C. State separated itself from the field with an eight-under-par 280 to take the lead into the final round. The Wolfpack are trailed by No. 43 ranked South Carolina (570, -6), No. 16 Florida State (579, +3) and No. 49 Kentucky (582, +6). Atlantic Sun foe Mercer rounds out the top five at 11-over-par 587.
Chasing Choi for the individual title is Florida State’s Daniel Berger (138, -6), who remains two shots behind, but only four strokes ahead of KSU’s Greene.
The Owls will tee off in the final round of the USF Invitational on Tuesday at 9 a.m. and will be paired with South Florida and Louisville.
