MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee State downed the Kennesaw State baseball team 6-1 in game two of Sunday’s doubleheader to complete the sweep over the Owls.

Kennesaw State falls to 6-6 on the season, while the Blue Raiders advance to 9-2 after winning its seventh consecutive game.

“We just don’t have a whole lot of offense right now,” Head Coach Mike Sansing said. “We haven’t been able to string together back-to-back hits and create scoring opportunities and it has cost us.”

Game one of the doubleheader went to MTSU 5-2. The Blue Raiders scored five runs off Owls’ starter Kevin Kyle as they outhit the Black and Gold nine to five.

MTSU took advantage of a first inning run to take a 1-0 lead on a Johnny Thomas single that scored Trevor Haggard.

Kennesaw State would put one run on the board in the top of the fifth inning after Jacob Bruce singled to right field and
scored Brennan Morgan to tie the game at 1-1.

The Blue Raiders would answer back in its half of the fifth inning with one run on a Haggard single, and then added three runs in the seventh inning to go ahead 5-1.

Chris McGowan delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning, but it would prove not enough as MTSU salted away a 5-2 win to take game one.

MTSU starter Johnathon Frebis earned the win throwing seven innings and giving up just one run on three hits, while Kyle (1-2) picked up the loss after 6.1 innings of work.

Reliever Alan Busentiz continued his excellent work with 1.2 innings of work as the senior allowed only one hit. Busenitz has now thrown seven innings without giving up a run and has allowed just seven hits.

Game two began with two more first inning runs as Thomas and Trent Miller recorded back-to-back RBI hits off of starter Will Solomon.

The Blue Raiders scored another run in the second inning before breaking the game open in the fifth with three runs to take a 6-0 advantage.

Clint Wynn would bring home the lone Owls run in the sixth inning with his first collegiate hit, an RBI double that scored Peyton Hart.

KSU was out hit 7-5 in the contest. Solomon (1-1) was credited with the loss, while Zac Curtis improved his season record to 2-1 with the win.

Justin McCalvin continued his terrific start to 2013 as the NCBWA Stopper of the Year candidate threw 1.2 innings of relief and allowed one hit. McCalvin has logged nine innings of work in six appearances without giving up a run.
