NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team earned its first Atlantic Sun Conference win of the season as the Owls defeated Lipscomb, 6-1, at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center on Thursday, March 28.
KSU improves to 6-9 on the season and 1-3 in the A-Sun, while LU drops to 6-10 and 1-3 in league play.
Kennesaw State opened the match by winning its fourth doubles point of the season. Junior
Alexandra Apostu and sophomore
Jana Hueckinghaus posted an 8-5 win over Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck on court one, while sophomores
Tamara Plocher and
Virginie Stein tallied an 8-2 victory against Lorena Djuknic and Alyssa Bellini on court two.
The Owls then dominated in singles action, winning five of the six singles matches, including winning in straight-sets in four of the five matches.
Stein defeated Welcher 6-3, 6-2 on court one, while Hueckinghaus recorded a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Melissa Kromer at No. 2 singles. Apostu won her second-consecutive match at No. 3 singles in a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Djuknic.
Plocher earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bellini on court five, while freshman
Isabela Castro won 6-3, 1-6, 10-7 against Shilpa Naruka at No. 6 singles to round out the Owls.
Kennesaw State continues its road trip with a 10 a.m. (ET) match at Northern Kentucky on Saturday, March 30.
