DELAND, Fla. – For the first time in seven games the Kennesaw State baseball team came out on the wrong end of the scoreboard, taking a 5-0 loss at Stetson on Friday night in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
The Owls managed to put up nine hits on the Hatters but failed to bring around a run, falling to 16-11 on the season and 5-3 in the A-Sun after taking a 4-0 shutout win over Stetson on Thursday in the series opener.
Stetson (13-14, 2-3 A-Sun) put up just three hits on KSU starter
Travis Dean (Boston, Mass./Newton South HS), but capitalized on four walks as the Hatters picked up the two go-ahead runs on the righty, one in the third and another in the fifth.
Dean went five innings before being replaced by
Jacob Moore (Acworth, Ga./Woodland HS) who, after striking out the first four batters he saw and retiring the first six out of seven, got into a jam in the eighth, allowing the final three Stetson runs to come home.
The Owls left a runner on third in four separate innings on the offensive side as
Kal Simmons (Nashville, Ga./Berrien HS),
Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) and
Andy Almonte (Moca, Puerto Rico/Gordon College) each went 2-for-4 from the plate in the contest.
From the field, third baseman
Peyton Hart (Sandy Cross, Ga./Franklin County HS) was good for four assists from the hot corner while catcher
Brennan Morgan (Peach Tree City, Ga./McIntosh HS) caught one runner attempting to steal.
Alan Buesnitz and
Travis Bergen closed out the game on the mound for the Owls allowing just one hit.
The two teams will play the rubber-match of the three-game series tomorrow, March 30 at 1 p.m. ET from Melching Field.
