KENNESAW, Ga. – The bats stayed hot for the Kennesaw State baseball team as the Owls hung a season-high 12 runs on Northern Kentucky University in the first ever Atlantic Sun Conference meeting between the two schools, holding the Norse to just one run in the Friday evening matchup.

Senior Peyton Hart (Sandy Cross, Ga./Franklin Co. HS) was 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a pair of RBI and two runs scored as the Owls won their third consecutive game, improving to 12-10 on the season and 2-2 in the A-Sun with the 12-1 victory.

After scoring one run in the bottom of the second to tie the game up at one, KSU came out and broke the game open in the fourth, putting up six runs on five hits to take the 7-1 lead. With the bases loaded and no outs, right fielder Alex Liquori (Brooks, Ga./Whitewater HS) sent a triple into the left-center field gap to clear the bases before Andy Almonte (Moca, Puerto Rico/Gordon College) knocked his first of two doubles in the game to drive home Liquori for the six-run KSU advantage.

Almonte came around to score in the sixth off of a Kal Simmons (Nashville, Ga./Berrien HS) RBI single followed by four more runs for the black and gold in the sixth, two coming home off of an Almonte double, to put the game on ice for the home team.

The Owls tied a season-high with 14 hits during the win with Hart’s three leading the way for both teams. Four KSU players finished with two hits during the game including Almonte, Simmons, Liquori and catcher Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS). Almonte, Pentecost, Hart and Way each went on to score a pair of runs as well.

Liquori ended the day with four RBI, the most by a single player this season for the black and gold.

From the mound it was Stephen Janas (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS) picking up the win, his second of the year to improve to 2-0, while giving up just one run and striking out eight.

KSU has now scored a combined 23 runs during its last two outings after putting up 11 on Savannah State earlier in the week.

The game was the first ever for the Norse as a member of the A-Sun, falling to 2-20 with the loss and 0-1 in the league standings.

The two teams will be back at it again tomorrow, March 23, with Travis Dean (Boston, Mass./Newton South HS) slated to make the 2 p.m. start on the mound.
