KENNESAW, Ga. – It was an offensive showcase in Stillwell Stadium on Tuesday night as the Kennesaw State baseball team tied a season-high with 11 runs as the Owls cruised to the 11-2 win over Savannah State University in non-conference action.

The Owls improve to 11-10 on the season with the midweek win, capitalizing on 10 hits and four Tiger (13-8) errors. Individually, Bo Way (Brunswick, Ga./Glynn Academy) extended his hit streak to 16 games after going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, improving his season batting average to .375.

Starting pitcher Will Solomon (Columbus, Ga./Columbus HS) got the win to bump his record to 2-2 on the year after going 4.1 innings allowing just two hits and striking out five.

Despite the loss the Tigers did grab the first lead of the game, scoring one in the top of the first before the Owls responded in kind, putting across one run in the bottom half of the inning on a Way RBI single.

Heading into the fourth still tied at one, KSU broke the game open after putting up a six-spot on the Tigers in the bottom half of the frame. Senior Peyton Hart (Sandy Cross, Ga./Franklin Co. HS) drove in the first run of the inning with a single followed by two errors and five straight walked batters from SSU pitching that gave the Owls a 7-1 advantage.

The black and gold added one more in the fifth on the fourth Savannah State error of the night before putting up three in the sixth on a Jacob Bruce (Woodstock, Ga./Woodstock HS) two-RBI single to put the game out of hand at 11-2.

Nine different Owl batters hit safely during the win with Bruce and Hart each earning two RBI. Way along with teammates Andy Almonte (Moca, Puerto Rico/Gordon College) and Max Pentecost (Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow HS) each scored two runs in the ballgame as well.

After Solomon’s solid start on the mound, five KSU pitchers combined to allow just three hits in the final 4.2 innings of action while striking out six.

Defensively, the Owls turned a season-best three double plays as well.

The Owls will be back in Atlantic Sun Conference action this weekend as the black and gold host Northern Kentucky University for the first ever meeting between the two schools. First pitch on Friday, March 22 is scheduled for 6 p.m.
