DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team tallied wins in five of six singles matches to sail past Bethune-Cookman, 5-1, on Friday, March 15 at the City Island Tennis Courts.
 
The Owls improve to 5-7 on the season, while the Wildcats drop to 10-8.
 
Playing singles first, the teams agreed to play until a result was decided, therefore doubles was not played.
 
Sophomore Virginie Stein started things off for the Owls, tallying a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ancia Ifill at No. 1 singles, followed by a 6-1, 6-4 victory for sophomore Tamara Plocher over Victoria Galyaeva on court five.
 
Senior Therese Lagerkvist fell in her No.4 singles match to put the score at 2-1, but Kennesaw State would take control of the match after that as junior Alexandra Apostu rebounded from losing the first set of her match to dominate the final two sets in a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win at No.2 singles.
 
Sophomore Jana Hueckinghaus registered a come-from-behind victory on court three, a 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision over Sheree Peterson-Paul to move KSU’s lead to 4-1. Freshman Isabela Castro then capped the Owl win with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 result against Maria Dimitrova at No. 6 singles.
 
Kennesaw next returns home for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches next weekend. The Owls first face Stetson on Friday, March 22 at noon (ET), followed by a 10 a.m. contest against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, March 23. Both matches will be played at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center in Marietta, Ga.
