KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team (9-6) fell just short of a series sweep, losing to Evansville (4-9) 8-3 on Sunday at Stillwell Stadium.

Despite each team having 10 hits and two errors, KSU was unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities, striking out 10 times on the afternoon.

“You have to give a lot of credit to Evansville’s starter. He really kept us in check and we were unable to get anything going against him,” Head Coach Mike Sansing said. “We are disappointed we didn’t get the sweep, but we can’t dwell on it with two big midweek games coming up.”

EU’s Kyle Lloyd (2-1) earned the win, throwing eight innings and allowing zero runs on five hits while striking out nine. Sophomore Will Solomon (1-2) picked up the loss, tossing five innings and allowing two earned runs.

Evansville notched the games first run in the second inning after taking advantage of a throwing error on the defense. The Purple Aces added two more runs in the third inning on three hits and a wild pitch that put the Owls down 3-0.

The Purple Aces extended its lead in the sixth inning when Jonathon Ramon and Shain Showers lifted back-to-back home runs over the left field wall. Ramon’s shot accounted for three runs; while Showers solo home run put Evansville out front 7-0.

Another EU run in the ninth inning extended the lead to 9-0.

The Owls tried to rally in the ninth, scoring three runs on four singles. Ryan Raper picked up his second RBI of the season, while Kal Simmons upped his season RBI total to 12 with a single to right field.

Kennesaw State will return to action on Tuesday with a rematch against SEC affiliate Auburn. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium.
