THE OPPONENT
Now ranked No. 9 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll and receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, Florida Gulf Coast remains atop the A-Sun standings with a perfect 17-0 record and a 24-5 mark on the season.

Sarah Hansen leads the Eagles and the conference with a 17.1 points per game average while as a team the Eagles are scoring an A-Sun best 70.7 points per game and are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the country, having made 267 so far.

THE SERIES
FGCU leads the all-time series, 10-2, winning the first meeting this season 62-35 on Dec. 31, 2012 in Kennesaw, Ga.

Freshman Chelsea Mason (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, but the first year player’s efforts weren’t enough as the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team fell to Florida Gulf Coast University, 62-35, in what was the Atlantic Sun Conference opener for both squads.

Last Outing
Even with her 14th double-double of the season, Kennesaw State women’s basketball senior Sametria Gideon couldn’t help the Owls overcome the offense of the Hatters as Stetson handed the black and gold a 74-46 Atlantic Sun Conference loss on Thursday evening.

Gideon (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) was good for 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Owls fall to 7-22 on the year and 3-14 in the A-Sun heading into Saturday’s regular season finale at Florida Gulf Coast.
Gideon’s 17 points were tops for the Owls offensively and her 12 rebounds led both squads on the boards. Ashley Holliday (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann Academy) was the only other Owl in double figures with 15 as the two seniors combined for 32 of KSU’s 46 points.

Holliday also added four assists to her stat line to go along with her two three-pointers.

THE NUMBERS
Gideon is one of just a handful of players in the nation to average a double-double with 11.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game after picking up her 14th double-double of the season against Stetson.

The three-point defense of KSU is one of the best in the A-Sun and one of the top 30 in the nation, holding opponents to just a 26.7 percent success rate from beyond the arc.

The Owls are committing just 11 fouls per game, putting KSU at No. 4 in the nation in fewest personal fouls per contest.
