STATESBORO, Ga. –
With her victory at No. 5 singles senior Therese Lagerkvist (Koping, Sweden / Adalsskolan) gave the Kennesaw State women’s tennis team (1-4) its first win of the 2013 season,  a tough 4-3 outing over Georgia Southern (1-3) on Saturday at the Hanner Tennis Complex.

Junior Alexandra Apostu (Bucharest, Romania/ Ion Barbu) and sophomore Virginie Stein (Gevelsberg, Germany / Gymnasium Gevelsberg) put the Owls in a prime spot to win their first doubles point of the season with an 8-6 win on court one, but KSU would fall just short in a spirited fight for the doubles point. Sophomore Jana Hueckinghaus (Gevelsberg, Germany / Gymnasium Gevelsberg) and Tamara Plocher (Cologne, Germany / Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium) dropped a 8-7 (7-2) decision on court two, while Lagerkvist (Koping, Sweden / Adalsskolan) and freshman Isabela Castro (Brazil/ Santa Doroteia) lost 8-7 (11-9) at No. 3 doubles.

Heading into singles action down a point, the Owls looked to take control of the match as Stein and Hueckinghaus posted straight-set wins on court one and three, respectively, pushing KSU into the lead at 2-1. Castro moved the Owls to within a point of victory with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

GSU came within 3-2 with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win from Stephanie Woods against Plocher at No. 4 singles.
