Live Scoring I Round 1 Results

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
Saturday was a tough outing for the Kennesaw State men’s golf team in Gainesville, Fla. as the team finished 13th after two rounds of the SunTrust Gator Invitational, on the par 70, 6,701 yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.

The Owls ended with an overall team score of 28-over par, 588 on day one. Failing to convert opportunities, the Owls look for a solid final round to catch the 14-team field. The Owls are seven strokes behind 12th place Jacksonville, and two strokes ahead of Lamar.

“Today was a disappointing performance,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “We played poorly during the first round and bounced back with a great start in round two. Unfortunately we made silly mistakes late in round two and it cost us our chance to move up the leaderboard. We are a much better team than we showed today, so I know we will play better on Sunday.”

It was sophomore Jimmy Beck who led the Owls, and finished the first two rounds of the tournament at three over par, 143. Beck shot a 75 in the first round, and bounced back strong in the second round with a two-under-par, 68 to finish tied for 20th.

Peder Lunde Hermansson and Jonathan Klotz each shot a nine-over-par, 149 to sit tied for 56th. Senior Ben Greene is tied for 61st, carding a 10-over-par 150, while sophomore Austin Vick rounded out the scoring at 11-over-par, 151, and is tied for 65th.

Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern leads the individual medalist race, carding a two round total of four-under-par, 136. Daniel Berger of Florida State finished two strokes behind Wolfes for second, followed by six players who finished at par, including two of Berger’s teammates. Wolfes and Florida State’s Doug Letson posted second round scores of 66, -4 and shared the best round of the day.

The top team was Florida State (561, +1), who finished nine strokes ahead of second place, host school Florida (570, +10) and A-Sun foe North Florida (570, +10). Liberty (572, +12) finished the day fourth and UAB (573, +13) rounded out the top five.

Final round play will begin at 8 a.m. E.T. Live scoring of Sunday’s final can be viewed at Golfstat.com. Keep up with Owls men’s golf by following KSU on Twitter at @KSUOwlNation at @KSUOwlsMensGolf, or by liking Kennesaw State Owls on Facebook.
