Owls on the Road for Matches at Armstrong Atlantic, Georgia Southern

MATCH NOTES | GEORGIA SOUTHERN LIVE STATS

KENNESAW, Ga. –
The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team continues its early season road swing with matches against Armstrong Atlantic on Friday, Feb. 8 and Georgia Southern on Saturday, Feb. 9. The Owls open against the Pirates on Friday at 2 p.m. ET at Bacon Park, followed by a Noon match on Saturday with the Eagles at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
 
The Owls (0-3) are looking for their first win of the season after falling in a pair of matches last weekend. Kennesaw State dropped a 5-2 decision to Alabama-Birmingham on Friday, with sophomores Jana Hueckinghaus and Tamara Plocher posting a pair of singles victories. A day later freshman Isabela Castro tallied her first career singles win in a dual match setting in a 6-1 loss to Samford.
 
Armstrong Atlantic (1-0) opened its season with a 9-0 blanking of USC Aiken last Wednesday. The Pirates enter the match as the top-ranked NCAA Division II team in the country, as well as the reigning Division II national champions. AASU holds a 13-0 lead in the series history, with the Pirates and the Owls last playing in 2005.
 
Georgia Southern (1-2) tallied a season-opening 6-1 win over Presbyterian, but have fallen in its last two matches to UAB (4-2) and Auburn (7-0). GSU owns a 2-1 lead in the series history, but the Owls earned their first win against the Eagles in the teams’ last meeting, a 6-1 win during the 2011 season.
 
Kennesaw State next heads to Montgomery, Ala., for a pair of matches on Saturday, Feb. 16. The Owls first face Alabama A&M at 9 a.m. ET, followed by a 2 p.m. contest versus Alabama State.
