BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman
Isabela Castro (Brazil/ Santa Doroteia) tallied her first career singles win in a dual match setting, but it would not be enough as the Kennesaw State women’s tennis team (0-3) dropped a 6-1 decision to Samford (2-0) on Saturday at the Samford Tennis Center.
Castro earned a 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory over Adri Lochner at No. 6 singles to secure the Owls’ lone point in the match.
Samford claimed the doubles points with wins on courts two and three to enter singles play with the 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs continued its strong play with straight-set victories on courts two through five, before sophomore
Virginie Stein (Gevelsberg, Germany / Gymnasium Gevelsberg) dropped a hard-fought three-setter to Kristin Lewis, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to wrap up the match.
The Owls next travel to Savannah, Ga., to take on Armstrong Atlantic on Friday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. ET.
