KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team returns to the friendly confines of Bailey Park on Wednesday, Feb. 20 for a 6 p.m. (ET) game against Samford.

Kennesaw State (8-1) wrapped play at the KSU Classic over the weekend, finishing the tournament with a 3-1 tally. KSU earned a pair of 1-0 victories, including an eighth-inning thriller over SIU Edwardsville and a walk off win against IUPUI. The Owls also tallied a 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech, but dropped a close 5-4 back and forth battle with UT Martin for KSU’s only loss of the season.
Junior
Amanda Henderson (Covington, Ga./Eastside HS) tallied her second-straight Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week honor of the season after posting three wins over the weekend at the KSU Classic, including a pair of complete game shutouts. In the tournament, Henderson registered a 0.00 ERA and did not give up a run, while only allowing nine hits in 18 innings of work.
Henderson allowed only two walks and tallied 25 strikeouts, including 10 against IUPUI and nine versus Tennessee Tech. In the Owls’ 1-0 eight-inning win over SIU Edwardsville, Henderson notched six strikeouts, while allowing just a single against the Cougars.
Senior
Sharon Swanson (Woodstock, Ga./Cherokee HS) again led the Owls offensively, registering five hits and an RBI in the Owls’ four games at the KSU Classic, while sophomore
Kaylee Williams (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain HS) provided all the offensive KSU needed in its 3-0 win over the Golden Eagles on Sunday. She notched two hits in the outing, including a two-run home run in the second inning. The sophomore added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to total three RBI in the win.
Samford (3-4) enters Wednesday’s game with wins over George Washington (12-4), Florida Atlantic (7-1) and Marshall (2-1), and has played a difficult schedule this season with two of the its three losses coming against No. 10 South Florida and No. 13 Michigan. Sophomore Caroline Seay leads the Bulldog offense with a .455 batting average and five hits, including a triple. Sophomore Mollie Hanson has been the go-to pitcher for the Bulldogs and has registered a 1.34 ERA in 31.1 innings. She owns a 2-3 record this season and has tallied 34 strikeouts.
The Owls next host the Phyllis Rafter Memorial on Feb. 22-24 at the Twin Creeks Softball Complex in Woodstock, Ga. KSU opens the tournament with Northern Colorado at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22.
