MARIETTA, Ga. – Freshman
Maksim Yorsh tallied his first career singles win as the Kennesaw State men’s tennis team (0-2) fell 6-1 to Georgia Southern (2-1) on Saturday at the Fair Oaks Tennis Center.
"We're continuing to compete well, but are struggling a little bit with the crucial points, which is typical of a young team like ours,” said Head Coach T.J. Greggs. “The guys showed good composure today, and we will be back to work quickly for next weekend in Alabama.”
Playing singles action due to the impending weather in the area, KSU fell behind 3-0 before Yorsh notched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Oliver Webb on court five to move the Owls within 3-1. Freshman
Tobi Menhofer then dropped a tough 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 1 singles to seal the win for the Eagles.
In doubles action, sophomore
Louis Theodor and Menhofer continued their strong play at No. 1 doubles, posting an 8-4 win over Oliver Webb and Andrew Dromsky on Theodor’s 20th birthday.
Kennesaw State next heads to Montgomery, Ala., for a pair of matches on Saturday, Feb. 16. KSU opens the day against Alabama A&M at 9 a.m. ET, followed by a 2 p.m. contest against Alabama State.
