Beck Records Fourth Top-12 Finish at SunTrust Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. –
Jimmy Beck recorded his fourth top-12 finish on the season as he finished tied for 12th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, leading the team as the squad posted a 37-over-par, 877 total to place 13th on the par-70, 6,701 yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.

Beck, the No. 45 ranked golfer in the nation according to Golfstat.com ousted nine top-100 ranked golfers after carding a 54-hole total of two-over-par, 212. After opening play on Saturday with an opening round 75, Beck played the final 36-holes at three-under-par to move up the leaderboard.

“Jimmy (Beck) provided the one bright spot on the weekend for us,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “His play this season has been consistent and strong, we just have to get some others to step up. It just wasn’t our week on the course, but we will regroup and be ready for our next tournament.”

Sophomore Austin Vick turned in a 10-over-par, 220 to finish tied for 49th. Finishing just behind in 60th was Peder Lunde Hermansson at 13-over-oar, 223 and Ben Greene tied for 67th at 17-over-par 227. Jonathan Klotz rounded out the scoring for the Owls as he finished tied for 71st, carding a 19-over-par, 229.

A host of Florida schools finished inside the top-five with Florida State holding on to the lead to claim the title. The Seminoles shot back-to-back rounds of 272, 271 to finish as the only team sub par at eight-under-par, 832. Second place North Florida finished 15 strokes behind at 847, +7, and South Alabama claimed third at 850, +10. Host school Florida placed fourth at 851, +11 and UCF finished inside the top five at 859, +19.

Florida State’s Daniel Berger shot a tournament low five-under-par, 65 on Sunday to win the individual medalist over Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern by three strokes. Seminole teammate Doug Leston and MJ Maguire of UNF tied for third at two-under-par, 208.

Kennesaw State will have nearly a month layoff before returning to action at the USF Invitational, hosted by South Florida at the Lake Jovita Country Club in Tampa, Fla.
