BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team (0-2) fell, 5-2, to Alabama-Birmingham (1-0) on Friday at the Samford Tennis Center, in its first of two matches on the weekend.
UAB took a quick 1-0 lead as the Owls dropped all three doubles matches.
The Blazers would extend their lead as Rachel Daniell opened singles play scoring with a 6-1, 6-3 win over junior
Alexandra Apostu (Bucharest, Romania/ Ion Barbu).
The Owls responded with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory from sophomore
Jana Hueckinghaus (Gevelsberg, Germany / Gymnasium Gevelsberg) against Caroliine Faught at No. 3 singles.
After a tough three-set loss by sophomore
Virginie Stein (Gevelsberg, Germany / Gymnasium Gevelsberg) at No. 1 singles, sophomore
Tamara Plocher (Cologne, Germany / Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium) pulled KSU to within 3-2 with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 4 singles. UAB would go on to win the match after wins at courts five and six.
Kennesaw State continues its weekend in Birmingham on Saturday, Feb. 2, as the Owls face Samford at 11 a.m., at the Samford Tennis Center.
