BATON ROUGE, La. – Freshman Teremoana Beaucousin (Papara, Tahiti / Lycée de Papara) led the Kennesaw State men's golf team during the opening day of the David Toms Intercollegiate that is being contested at the par-72, 7,578-yard University Club in Baton Rouge, La.

Making his third career start, Beaucousin fired a first-round 1-under par 71 and followed that effort with a 2-over par 74 in the second round to finish the day at 1-over par 145 and tied for eighth. His effort helped the Owls conclude 36 holes at 14-over par 590 and in fifth place.

Southeast Louisiana leads the 12-team field with a 6-under total of 570, 14 shots ahead of second-place Louisiana (584). Houston (587) is third and followed by host LSU (589).

"We played really well for most of day," head coach Jay Moseley said. "We had several guys struggle early in the first round, but we managed to put together a pretty solid round in tough conditions. We really had a great opportunity to put up a great round this afternoon, but some silly mistakes hurt us."

Beaucousin currently sits five shots behind Southeast Louisiana's Eamon Bradley who carded rounds of 71-69 for a 4-under par total of 140 and holds a one-shot advantage over his Lions teammate Grady Brame and Louisiana's Fernando Cruz Valle.

Junior Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga./Columbus HS) is tied for 18th at 3-over par 147, while junior Austin Vick (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier HS) is tied for 23rd at 4-over par 148. Redshirt-junior Kelby Burton (Evans, Ga./Lakeside HS) is at 6-over par 150 and tied for 31st, and senior Jonathan Klotz is tied for 51st at 11-over par 155.

"We can certainly play better tomorrow (Sunday) and have a chance to get into contention," Moseley said. "With only one team way out in front, anything can happen on a course like this."

The final round on Sunday gets underway at 9:30 a.m. (EDT) and all the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
