KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team turned in a second-round 4-under par 284 during Monday's opening day of the Pinetree Intercollegiate and put itself in strong contention to repeat as team champion of its own event that is being contested at the par-72, 7,108 Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.
After posting a first-round 8-over par 296, the Owls stand at 4-over par 580, four-shots behind Akron who leads the 12-team field with an even-par total of 576.
"We played really well all day. We made some mistakes in the first round but we bounced back with a solid afternoon round," Kennesaw State head coach
Jay Moseley said. "Tomorrow will be another great opportunity for our guys to show our depth. It is fun for us to play in front of our family, friends and supporters so we hope we can finish off tomorrow with a victory."
Junior
Jimmy Beck (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS), who is the tournament's defending champion and also captured the Georgia State Amateur championship on the same course in July, is tied for fifth after carding rounds of 69-75 for an even-par total of 144. He is eight shots behind Akron's Ryan Harris, who opened with a course record-tying 7-under par 65, and holds a six-shot advantage over Winthrop's Zach Seabolt (142) at 8-under par 136.
Freshman
Teremoana Beaucousin (Papara, Tahiti / Lycée de Papara) and redshirt junior
Kelby Burton (Dallas, Ga. / East Paulding HS) sparked Kennesaw State's second-round surge as they both posted 3-under par scores of 69, and are currently tied for ninth at 1-over par 145.
Junior
Austin Vick (Evans, Ga. / Greenbrier HS) is tied for 11th at 2-over 146, while senior
Jonathan Klotz (Columbus, Ga. / Columbus HS) is tied for 36th at 7-over par 151 along with sophomore
Carlos Segura Oliva (Malaga, Spain / Colegio El Limonar) who is playing as an individual.
