MATCH NOTES
KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women’s tennis team is set for a pair of matches this weekend, as the Owls face Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) on Friday, Feb. 1 at 10:30 a.m. ET, followed by an 11 a.m. match against Samford on Saturday, Feb. 2. Both matches will be played at the Samford Tennis Center in Birmingham, Ala.
KSU (0-1) is coming off a 6-1 loss to Chattanooga in its dual match season-opener last Friday at the Hixon Raquet Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Junior
Alexandra Apostu (Bucharest, Romania/ Ion Barbu) tallied wins in both her singles and doubles matches to lead the Owls. Apost first teamed with sophomore
Virginie Stein (Gevelsberg, Germany / Gymnasium Gevelsberg) for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, before earning a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Kaylene Chadwell at No. 2 singles.
UAB (0-0) and first-year Head Coach Lisa Jackson open their dual-match season on Friday against the Owls. The Blazers return six letterwinners from a season ago and hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series. UAB and KSU last played during the 2011 season, with the Blazers tallying a 6-1 over Kennesaw State.
Samford (1-0) opened its dual-match season with an impressive 7-0 win over Austin Peay last Saturday, with all six singles courts tallying straight-set victories. The Bulldogs and the Owls have only played once in each program’s history, with SU coming away with a 7-0 win during the 2008 season.
Kennesaw State next travels to Savannah, Ga., for a match against Armstrong Atlantic on Friday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.
