THE OPPONENT
The Dolphins are looking to snap a three-game losing skid that saw JU take losses to both Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson on the road and Mercer in their team’s last outing at home in what was just a four-point ballgame.
Junior forward Jade Cargill is leading the way for the Dolphins in nearly every statistical category, averaging 11.8 points per game with a .426 field goal percentage and 8.7 rebounds per game.
The Dolphins are leading the way in the A-Sun in defensive rebounds with 27.2 boards per game, but are lacking on the defensive side of the court as a whole, allowing opponents to 72.7 points per game on average.
THE SERIES
Jacksonville leads the all-time series by a slim margin, 7-5, but the Owls got the best of the Dolphins the last time the two schools met, taking a 66-62 win on Feb. 16, 2012 in Swisher Gymnasium.
The win clinched a berth in the A-Sun Postseason Tournament for KSU as the Owls overcame a three-point halftime deficit to take the win, shooting 60-percent from the field in the second half alone to close the gap.
LAST OUTING
With the ball in hand and a chance to tie up the game with less than one tick left on the clock, a buzzer-beating three fell short for the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team as the Owls dropped an Atlantic Sun Conference contest at North Florida, 52-49.
Kristina Wells (Douglasville, Ga./Douglas County HS) had her second 20-point outing of the season to lead the KSU offense while senior
Sametria Gideon (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones HS) earned her third straight double-double and ninth of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Wells shot 56-percent from the field to go with her game-high 20 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
THE NUMBERS
Gideon is one of just 36 players in the nation to average a double-double with 11.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
The three-point defense of KSU is the best in the A-Sun and one of the top 50 in the nation, holding opponents to just a .273 success rate from beyond the arc.
The Owls are committing just 12 fouls per game, putting KSU at No. 7 in the nation in fewest personal fouls per contest.
NEXT UP
The black and gold will return home on Jan. 19, at 5:30 p.m. as the Owls host East Tennessee State followed by USC Upstate on Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.
