BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Kennesaw State men’s golf team failed to make up any ground on the field on the final day of the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate as the team finished at 30-over-par, 893, at the Par 72, 7,234 yards Shoal Creek Country Club.

Sophomore Jimmy Beck was able to sustain his momentum from the opening day by firing a one-under-par, 71 to finish tied for fifth to lead the Owls. Able to jump up from eighth place with a birdie on his final hole, Beck posted a two-under-par, 214 total.

“Overall I was happy with my performance,” Beck said. “On a difficult course that demands accuracy, I did a good job of keeping the ball in front of me. I was fortunate to hit fairways and reach greens, I just couldn’t make putts when I needed too.”

Sophomore Austin Vick carded a final round of 77 to finish tied for 36th, while junior Jonathan Klotz concluded play with a 78 to drop into a tie for 21st. Both had season best finishes. Seniors Peder Lunde Hermansson and Ben Greene each tallied a 79 on Tuesday as Hermansson finished tied for 43rd, while Greene tied for 49th.

“It was a sluggish two days for us,” Head Coach Jay Moseley said. “We struggled in all aspects of the game from tee to green. We got off to a slow start each round and we were never able to regain any momentum.”

Curtis Thompson and Stewart Jolly who shared the individual medalist honors along with Rodolfo Cazaboun of North Texas led LSU to the team title. The Tigers posted an even-par, 864 to beat out day one leaders Houston, who finished at five-over-par, 869. North Texas (+9), host school UAB (+12) and Memphis (+13) rounded out the top five.

The Owls will return to action on Oct. 1, when the team travels to Dafuskie Island, S.C., to defend their back-to-back Rees Jones Invitational titles.

“We are excited to return to Dafuskie Island where we have had success in the past,” Moseley said. “Haig Point is a great golf course that the team really likes, and we are expected nothing less than a repeat performance of the years past.”

Last season the Black and Gold beat out host school South Carolina to repeat as Champions. Greene earned runner-up honors at the event as he aided the Owls to a tournament low final round of 289, +1.
