KENNESAW, Ga. – During a summer of change, the Kennesaw State University Convocation Center became the first athletics facility to receive a new look following the resurfacing of the floor and the laying down of the new primary athletics mark at center court.
As the Department of Athletics continues the process of rebranding itself, several other KSU athletics facilities will see modifications as the new mark makes its presence at the various athletic venues on campus.
“We decided to sand and refinish the (KSU Convocation Center) floor as a start-off to our rebranding with the new logo and font,” Katie Egloff, assistant athletics director for events and championships, said. “I worked with cba Flooring in Lawrenceville, Ga. on a design that would showcase and highlight our new logo with input from our basketball and volleyball staffs.
“This type of project takes a lot of work and patience from many departments within the University and it wouldn't have happened without them,” Egloff continued. “I hope the student-athletes, alumni, fans and the entire Owl Nation enjoy the new look and are excited for the upcoming year of Owls Athletics.”
The project took three weeks to complete and comes six weeks after the unveiling of the new primary athletics mark that was released on June 12.
“The addition of the video board, new floor and logo signals Kennesaw State’s commitment to building a home court advantage for all our sports,” Lewis Preston, head men’s basketball coach, said. “The upgrades also signal to our current and future student-athletes that Kennesaw State desires to be the best in the Atlantic-Sun Conference.”
In addition to the new center logo that measures 33.5 feet wide by 23 feet high, the new floor also includes two ksuowls.com marks in front of each bench and the Owls word mark at the center of each baseline. All of the floor marks are spelled out in gold lettering.
“I am thrilled about the addition of the scoreboard and the new Owls logos in the KSU Convocation Center," Kennesaw State head women’s volleyball coach Karen Weatherington said. “The enhancements to one of the best athletic facilities in the Atlantic Sun Conference will provide a boost to the competitive atmosphere for our fans and student-athletes. The state-of-the art-scoreboard will create a dynamic atmosphere at our events.
“The new logo signifies the energy and competitive spirit that exists among our team,” Weathertington said. “The team can't wait to don the new logo and represent Kennesaw State University in a few weeks. Their excitement to be the first team to take the court is only matched by the positive response we have gotten from prospective recruits and their families.”
The new floor represents the second major change to the KSU Convocation Center since the end of the 2011-12 academic year. In April, the first major project atmospheric addition to the facility since it opened in 2005 was completed with the installation of a large Daktronics video board with sponsorship signage on the south end of the building, a ribbon board just below the hospitality suite on the north side, and new scorer and media tables.
