KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State baseball team lost 5-4 to East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at Stillwell Stadium, despite a three run homerun from senior
Aaron Dobbs in the ninth inning on Senior Day.
Trailing 5-1, Dobbs hit a three-run homerun with two-outs to get the Owls within one of the Bucs. Unable to complete the comeback, KSU fell on Senior Day, bringing the season record to 31-23, 15-11 in A-Sun conference play.
ETSU struck first after Owls’ starter
Travis Dean walked the first two batters to open the game. Clinton Freeman lifted a three run homer over the left field wall to give the Bucs a 3-0 lead for three of his game high four RBI. The Bucs added another run in the second inning on an RBI single by Andrew Green to go up 4-0 on the Black and Gold.
The Owls got their first run in the bottom of the second inning when
Ronnie Freeman scored on a fielder’s choice by
Ethan Herron. Freeman led off the frame with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a
Will Howard single to right field before scoring off the bat of Herron, making it a 4-1 contest.
East Tennessee State would add one more run in the fifth inning before the Owls would make their late inning surge, but it wouldn’t be enough as Bucs’ starter John Long finished off his complete game and secured a 5-4 win for his team.
The Owls had 11 hits on the afternoon as
Peyton Hart, Howard and
Jordan Craft each had two hits, while Dobbs led the squad with three RBI, going 1-for-5 from the plate.
Kennesaw State will return to action for the 2012 A-Sun Championship tournament on May 23 – 26 in DeLand, Fla., at Melching Field at Conrad Park.
