ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team is in third place after the conclusion of round one of the NCAA Ann Arbor Golf Regional being played at the University of Michigan Course. The Owls carded a 287, +3 on Thursday.
Peder Lunde Hermansson led the way for the Owls as the native of Sweden posted a 70, -2 to sit tied for fifth. Hermansson is playing in only his third event of the season, but the lack of experience didn’t affect the junior as he tallied six birdies in the opening round.
“I have been hitting the ball really well for the past week,” Hermansson said. “I was able to manage my way through the front nine, and on the back nine my putter got hot and led to a solid round.”
Jeff Karlsson returned to postseason action with a 73, +1 on his first 18 holes. The senior came up with a birdie on the eighteenth hole to move the Owls into a tie for third with Virginia.

Matt Nagy, Junior
Ben Greene and freshman
Jimmy Beck all posted a 74, +2 to tie for 31st. The team combined for 18 birdies on opening day, and trail second place Kent State (286, +2) by one stroke, and the leader TCU (278, -6) by nine.
“We got off to a good start, and as a team we played great from start to finish,” head coach
Jay Moseley said. “It is a little disappointing to finish the round the way we did, but we are a resilient team and will regroup and go out tomorrow and play better. If we play solid like we know we can, we can win this tournament.”
The Horned Frogs were the only team to post a sub-par score as Julien Brun led the charge to lead the medalist race at 67, -4. The top two seeded teams in the Regional are lurking just behind the Owls as Oregon is in fifth place and Southern California is sixth.
The Owls will tee off in round two on Friday at 9:10 a.m. E.T., and will be paired with TCU and Kent State. Live stats of the NCAA Regional can be viewed at Golfstat.com. For updates throughout the round, you can also follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsMensGolf.
