No. 59 Kennesaw State Finishes 20th at West Regional

ERIE, Colo. – The best season in the history of the Kennesaw State women’s golf program came to a close on Saturday afternoon as the team shot a final round 304, +16 at the NCAA West Regional at the Colorado National Golf Club. The Owls finished the 54-hole tournament shooting a 309-311-306=926, +62 to place 20th in the event. 

Junior Molly Winnett led KSU in the regional as she fired a team-low 78-76-74=228, +12. Winnett, who only played in four events all season prior to this tournament, saved her best for last as her final round of 74 on Saturday was her best round of the season. The Gardendale, Ala. native finished tied for 61st individually in the regional and she also finished in front of four golfers that were ranked in the top-80 in the nation.

A pair of freshmen also had solid performances in the regional as Kaew Preamchuen (73-78-80=231, +15) and Lea Charpier (79-75-77=231, +15) both finished in a tie for 85th place.

Junior Ket Preamchuen registered a 79-82-75=236, +20 for the event, while freshman Ines Lescudier rounded out KSU’s scoring in the tournament with a 79-82-80= 241, +25. 

No. 1 UCLA (+9), No. 7 LSU (+9), No. 19 Pepperdine (+11), No. 11 Colorado (+13), No. 17 Baylor (+15), No. 40 Stanford (+15), No. 6 North Carolina (+16) and No. 26 Oklahoma (+26) finished as the top eight teams in the tournament and earned the right to advance to the NCAA Championship.

North Carolina’s Catherine O’Donnell won the individual title for the West Regional as she shot a 70-69-70=209, -7.

The Black and Gold’s 2011-12 season did come to a close today, but it didn’t come without a host of honors and awards. The Owls had three top-five five team finishes during the campaign. KSU also collected two Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Week awards, while Preamchuen garnered A-Sun First Team Honors and Charpier and Lescuider were named to the A-Sun Second Team.
