ERIE, Colo. – Freshman Kaew Preamchuen fired an opening round one-over 73 on Thursday afternoon as the Kennesaw State women’s golf team currently sits in 20th place after round one of the NCAA West Regional at Colorado National Golf Club.
The No. 59th ranked Owls, who were paired up with No. 55 Illinois and No. 68 San Jose State on Thursday, finished round one with a 309, +21. The Owls finished within five strokes of three top-50 ranked teams in round one trailing No. 23 UC Davis and No. 26 Oklahoma by four and No. 43 Denver by five.
No. 40 Stanford shot a 287, -1 on day one which was good enough to lead the field. No. 6 North Carolina currently sits in second place after shooting a 288, E and No. 1 UCLA rounds out the top-three by recording a 290, +2 on the day.
Preamchuen’s round of 73 has her in a tie for 18th place in an extremely competitive field of more than 125 golfers. She is currently in front of 16 golfers that are ranked in the top-100 in the nation.
Junior Molly Winnett finished with KSU’s second best score of the day posting a 78, +6. Junior Ket Preamchuen also had a solid day as she had three birdies on the back nine while registering a 79, +7.
Freshmen #Léa Charpier and Ines Lescudier# rounded out the Black and Gold’s scoring as they both recorded a 79, +7 at the 6,575 yard, par-72 course.
"Our scores don't reflect the effort the team put forth today,” head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. “We really worked hard all day, and I'm proud of the team’s tenacity. We need to make adjustments on our short game and make better decisions on the par 3's. Today was a good learning experience for a young squad"
