Owls strong finish takes the lead in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team currently sits in first place after the conclusion of the first two rounds of the Memphis Intercollegiate at the Colonial Country Club shooting a 593, +17 on Monday evening.

The Black and Gold shot a 299, +11 in the first round, and capped off the day shooting a 294, +6 in round two to overcome the first round leaders.

Junior Ben Greene was the low scorer for the Owls on Monday as he shot a combined 72-72= 144, E through 36 holes. The Duluth, Ga. native recorded three birdies in each of his first two rounds as he currently sits in a tie for second place.

Senior Matt Nagy also had a solid day for Kennesaw State as he finished the 36 holes tied for fourth  place by posting a 76-69= 134, +1. His second round score of 69, -3 was the second best round of the day, behind only Vanderbilt’s Adam Hofmann’s 68, -4.

Other notable scores for the Black and Gold were Jimmy Beck (153, +9) to tie for 30th, while Peder Lunde Hermansson (155, +11) is tied for 36th and Jonathan Klotz (156, +12) is tied for 41st.

"I was really proud of the way the guys played on a tough and difficult course to score on in the afternoon," head coach Jay Moseley said. "We knew going in that the team with the most discipline and patience would have a really good chance to be at the top of the leaderboard, and we did all of those well. I am happy with our position heading in to the final round. We are going to get a goodnight sleep and go out and give it all we got tomorrow."

No. 42 ranked MTSU (596, +20) is second behind the Owls, with host-school No. 43 Memphis (599, +23), Vanderbilt, after their second round charge of 288, E to total a 599, +23 and Akron are all tied for third to round out the top five.

Kennesaw will tee off on Tuesday at 9 a.m. E.T., for the final round in a shotgun start, and will be paired with Middle Tennessee State University and UAB.
