NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State baseball team dropped their first series since the opener at Memphis to Lipscomb, after a 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Dugan Field.

Kennesaw (19-13, 8-4) struggled from the plate in both losses in the series. Only collecting six hits on Saturday, the Owls would not be able to overcome the early lead taken by the Bison. In the bottom of the third inning, Tyson Ashcraft led off the inning with a solo homerun for the first run of the game. Able to muster one more run on a M.L. Williams double down the left field line, Lipscomb would jump out to a 2-0 advantage.

Owls’ starter Kevin Kyle settled down and pitched arguably his best game of the season outside of a two hitter he tossed against Mercer. Striking out six Bison, Kyle would not get any help from his offense until the seventh inning.

Ronnie Freeman would connect with his third home run of the season to give the junior his 37 RBI on the year and would bring the Black and Gold with in one.

Keeping the game in reach, the bullpen, featuring Andrew Austin and Caden Ferguson closed out the game without allowing a hit. Unfortunately for the Owls, the offense would be stymied and the team would drop their first Atlantic Sun Conference series.

KSU will head into next week tied for second in the A-Sun standings with Lipscomb. Prepped for two mid-week games against Georgia Southern and Alabama State, the Owls will host pre-season conference favorite Stetson in a three game weekend series.
