Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kennesaw State baseball team lost 6-0 to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday afternoon at Swanson Stadium to fall to 28-20 on the season.

The Owls, 12-9 in conference play was shut out for only the second time all season. Only able to muster two hits off the Eagles' (18-25, 9-9) combination of Brandon Bixler and Brady Anderson, Kennesaw State was swept for the first time of the 2012 campaign.

FGCU scored three runs in both the second and sixth innings to secure the win. Belting out 10 hits in the contest, Owls starter Kevin McCoy lasted only 1.2 innings before allowing three runs. All three runs came with two outs as the inning was capped off by a bases loaded two RBI single by Kirby Retzer.

A two out surge again powered the sixth inning for the Eagles. Retzer picked up his third RBI of the game on a single to right field and was followed by a two RBI triple by Brandon Bednar that put FGCU up 6-0.

The Black and Gold sent only 10 batters to the plate in the final three innings as the Eagles pitching staff was dialed in, with starting pitcher Bixler recording 14 of the team’s 15 strikeouts. Striking out 32 times over the span of three games the Owls will have plenty of time to regroup.

Kennesaw State will have 11 days off before the team travels to Spartanburg, S.C. for a pivotal series against the Atlantic Sun Conference leading USC Upstate Spartans. For updates on the series, you can follow the team on Twitter @KSUOwlsBaseball.
